The following is a repeat of my last post concerning Coronavirus, Makeup, and You.
If you have not yet been given a flu shot please get one. buy a portable hand sanitizer and use it often. Wash your hands with antibacterial soap for the time it takes to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ often.
This may sound crazy however the more you reduce the need to be near a lot of other people the better.
Prevention is key.
Having worked in retail cosmetics for many years, sterilization and vigilant cleanliness was mandatory for a safe shopping environment.
Any cosmetic store or cosmetic department is a breeding ground for germs, bacteria and disease. Everyone touches everything. Testers are applied to lips and eyes where viruses are easily spread.
Though the advice I am offering needs to be applied to every aspect of our behavior during this pandemic, I will offer advice about shopping for cosmetics.
Now is not the time to sit down for a makeover in a public store.
Now is not the time to let someone in a public setting touch your face.
Now is not the time to use cosmetic testers that are within reach of the general public.
Getting a backup canned/non-perishable food supply.
Getting backup drugstore type products supply.
Backing up your water supply at home.
Wearing a nose and mouth mask when in public.
The key here is prevention. This is not paranoia, this is common sense.
Reduce every possible risk of exposure in your daily life until this pandemic is under control.
For myself, I will be ordering necessities online as much as possible and having them delivered.
Getting back to makeup. My studio is a safe place. It is not at all open to the general public and I take great precaution with each client I work with, washing my hands often during each interaction.
So please, prevent yourself from contracting the Coronavirus. Widen your circle of defense so that you and yours are insulated from potential exposure.
Thank you for taking a moment to allow me to share my concern.

I usually do not go crazy about makeup products. I have my favorites, that is what I use, and make available to my clients.
In fact, when other makeup artists go on and on about how much they love a product, I begin to roll my eyes a little bit because, really, how good can a product be?
Please get ready to roll your eyes at me. Last June I introduced my new BB cream, a Tinted Moisturizer loaded with extras such as Broad Spectrum SPF 30, antioxidants, pomegranate and white tea extracts Etc.
This yummy lightweight skin enhancer is a dream come true. As an advocate for the positive effects of makeup, this tinted moisturizer is exceeding all of my expectations.
I equate it to a superfood smoothie which is so packed with goodness that every time you drink it, you feel better. It is a superfood smoothie for your face.
Although simplicity is one of its many advantages, this Tinted Moisturizing BB Cream is a revelation in the appearance and health of your skin.
Provides a tinted, moisturizing finish with sunscreen.
Benefits: Hydrates and nourishes the skin while protecting face from the sun. Contains colorant to help even skin tones and lightly cover blemishes. For all skin types and all parts of your body.

No matter how careful the makeup application is, there are times when too much makeup has been applied. Its appearance is thicker than your skin and sits on top of the face. The instinctual reaction is to wipe some off spreading things sideways and thinning the makeup indiscriminately. There is a better way.
The best technique for flattening any slip product is press and roll. This means to physically flatten the product into the skin with your finger or sponge. This is especially useful when applying concealer, corrector, and foundation.
For smaller areas where too much has been applied, usually under the eyes, using the pad of the top of your middle finger is the best tool. It is rounded and pliable and works itself well into that snuggie corner between the nose and under eye.
The motion is as follows. Press the pad of the middle finger where you have too much product and turn your wrist side to side while applying pressure with the finger. The pad of the finger is rolling back and forth over the area you want to diminish. Without removing virtually any product, the product on the skin flattens and smooths into the skin and becomes part of the skin.
Sometimes rather than pressing and rolling you may simply tap the pad of the finger along the area of concern to flatten it as well. Tt is important to understand that you are not tapping the area like you would your finger on the table to make a noise. It is a more focused pressure that gently yet firmly flattens the product into the skin.
The technique for using a makeup sponge with the press and roll is simply replacing the pad of the finger for the pad of the sponge. If using a flat sided sponge, squeeze it between your thumb and other fingers so that it becomes rounded. If using a curved sponge, such as the egg sponge, it is already curved for you. The action is virtually the same as when you use your finger. Press the pad of the sponge into the area you want to smooth and roll your wrist. Mechanically with this technique it feels more comfortable to roll in Just one direction, not back and forth. Either way is fine.
Using the sponge is amazing for making any wet foundation application look more skin like. If too much foundation has been applied, this technique will solve the problem. If the right amount has been applied, it only makes the application look better by making it more skin like. I suggest using this technique when using wet foundation every time.
This concludes our four-part series on the concept of skin thin makeup and the techniques used to make it possible. I hope you found this of some use and can use these techniques in the future.

A parting thought. Understand that everyone uses the same makeup. They put it in the same places on their face. The difference in the outcome is the attention to detail. Most people apply their makeup generally and because of this, their makeup looks generally good. Some people apply the same makeup specifically and their makeup looks specifically good. The trick is in the specifics. Learn the specifics and have your makeup look specifically good.

The fishtail brushstroke delivers a more skin thin finish with even the heaviest of cream/slip makeup products. Slip products are products that are even remotely wet/or creamy in texture. Even products that start off as a cream and dry down to a powder are considered a slip product.
For the Face with a Heart technique of makeup application, the fishtail brush stroke occurs almost exclusively with eyeshadow base, corrector, and concealer. Although many foundations are also a slip product, we do not use the fishtail brush stroke to apply the foundation.
The most natural feeling way to apply slip products with a brush is to brush the product in one direction. For instance with concealer we start under the inner corner of our eye and brush the concealer downward and outward always brushing in the same direction.
This seems to make good sense however the product is not being delivered in an even way. It is being layered on top of itself unevenly rather than becoming part of the skin.
The fishtail brushstroke at first feels unnatural. Rather than brushing the product in one direction, the brush slips back and forth like a fishtail to blend the product into the skin rather than across the skin. For this to physically work the brush must be held close to the hair end of the brush to create the flip flop simulation of a fishtail.
The eyelid and under eye area is the most vulnerable for showing any dehydration and fine lines. It is exactly in these areas where we apply key makeup products to either conceal or enhance our eyes. This is why learning to apply these slip products in this very thin skin area is paramount to your makeup looking like you and not like makeup.
