Face with a Heart Makeup Application Tutorials – Eyebrows

This week, Makeup Gourmet Chris Scott, introduces the first in a new series of how-to makeup video tutorials. The simplest way to shape your eyebrows – ever!

Face with a Heart Eyebrow tutorialWhen I do someone’s makeup I always start with the eyebrows. It is one of the steps I never skip. There are some core fundamentals to achieve the ‘Face with a Heart’ look, and brows are one of them. Your eyebrows, when you use this method, immediately frame your face better and, if you only had time in the morning to do that one thing, people would still see you better and wouldn’t notice the one piece of makeup on your face.

The Face with a Heart brow technique is shockingly easy. If you can draw two straight lines, then you can maximize your brows quickly and easily.

The face is a curved surface and I find that when you superimpose a straight line onto it you create an optical illusion of lift and energy that still flows with the anatomy of your face. This balances and frames the top part of the heart of your face.

By doing every step of your makeup application in this specific manner, people see less makeup and more you. That is the point, to be authentically beautiful.

Face with a Heart Makeup Application Tutorials – Eyebrows

Note: This series of video tutorials is organized in a specific order of application. It is not necessary to do every step when you do your makeup but I do suggest you follow the order of the videos and skip the steps that don’t apply to you.

Please let me know if this blog was of value to you and share your own Authentic Beauty Makeup tips in the comments box below. I would love to hear how you get on trying this new method of makeup application – tell me how useful you find the tutorials and how you found the results. You can also use the comments box to tell me what interests and concerns you when it comes to which makeup colors to choose. Please let me know so I can fashion future blogs that are relevant and interesting to you.

How Correctors Can Create the Ultimate Energy Lift to Your Face

How Correctors Can Create the Ultimate Energy Lift to Your Face

In this video, Makeup Gourmet Chris Scott explains why he recommends correctors rather than concealers to even out the complexion, and demonstrates his technique.

In traditional makeup application – as is taught at most cosmetic counters – concealer is used to disguise dark circles and blemishes. Foundation is then spread over the face, covering up our actual skin and replacing it with a blank canvas on which to apply the rest of the makeup.

It is a method that has definitely carried results, however there is now a new way to show your skin off, rather than disguise it. As a complement to this new approach, light is redirected on our skin so it travels up and outwards to illuminate our eyes and lips giving an energy lifting vault of light on the face.

In part one of this series, we will talk about the role that correctors play in my Face with A Heart makeup technique, how they translate to your face, and why it is time to see yourself in a whole new light.

In this video I will explain:

  • What correctors are
  • How they differ from concealers

And I will demonstrate:

  • How to apply correctors
  • Where to place correctors so they redirect how light reflects and travels on your skin

Please note: This is the core of the Face with a Heart Authentic Beauty Makeup method when it comes to the appearance of skin. Once you grasp this new way of seeing yourself, you will change how you do your makeup for the rest of your life.

Please let me know if this blog was of value to you and share your own corrector/concealer tips in the comments box below. I would love to hear how you get on trying this new technique – tell me how useful you found the demo and how you found the results. You can also use the comments box to tell me what interests and concerns you when it comes to which makeup colors to choose. Using Makeup to Reduce Distractions So People See You Better

Using makeup to reduce distractions so people see YOU better

In this short video Makeup Gourmet, Chris Scott shows how your makeup can make your best features really ‘pop’ by drawing the eye away from the distractions.

Mornings can be challenging. When applying your makeup becomes a burden rather than pleasurable (as it should be), here are some quick tips to feeling and looking your best in a jiffy,

In this video, I explain how to prioritize your makeup application to minimize face time and maximize feeling authentically beautiful every day by enhancing your best features (attractions) and minimizing anything that draws attention away from the attractions (distractions).

Attractions are:

  • Eyes
  • Lips
  • Appearance of the skin

Distractions are:

  • Redness in the skin
  • Darkness around the eye
  • Uneven complexion

The trick is to proportionately reduce the distractions while enhancing the attractions.

Attraction Enhancements:

  • Well-defined eyes
  • Flattering lip color
  • More even complexion

In this video, I point out some key distractions using before and after photos, and suggest ways to reduce them without drawing attention to the makeup. So often we try to make our eyes stand out but don’t understand that we are competing with ourselves. By subtly balancing what you neutralize and what you enhance, you will find very little makeup is needed to create the effect you want and have people see you better.

Please let me know if this blog was of value to you and share your own reduce/enhance tips in the comments box below. You can also use the comments box to tell me what interests and concerns you when it comes to which makeup colors to choose. Please let me know so I can fashion future blogs that are relevant and interesting to you.

What Are The Best Colors For Me? Pt 3: What Is My Best Look?

What Are The Best Colors For Me? Pt 3: What Is My Best Look?

In part 3 of this series Makeup Gourmet, Chris Scott defines 4 makeup looks: Natural, Balanced, Dramatic, Trend and explains how to choose the best look for you.

Many of us want to know what our best, most flattering colors are. It is one of the top questions my clients ask me and every time I set out to answer the question on paper, I realize what a complex and individualized topic it is.

When I work with clients one-on-one I have an interview method that leads me to all the decisions I need to make about their makeup. I have done some brainstorming and have managed to crystalize this method into something you can do for yourself using a simple process of elimination.

The result is this 3-part video series that will illuminate how to choose not only your best colors, but also the correct intensity of those colors, by showing you how to narrow down the options so you can answer the question, “What are the best colors for me?” all by yourself. In part one we rummaged in your wardrobe and jewelry box to look for clues.  Then, in part two, we looked at the intensity of your skin, hair and eye coloring. Now it is time to combine this knowledge and focus on how you will be able to specifically orchestrate any effect you want with your makeup as it relates to your lifestyle(s) and desired appearance as we ask:

What is the best look for you?

There are four main make-up looks that I will clearly define and illustrate in the following video:

  • Natural
  • Balanced
  • Dramatic
  • Trend

It is my wish that by defining these looks, it will be supremely easy for you to, not only know the look you want and feel is appropriate, but also the colors and intensities of colors that will do it best for you.  If this makes sense to you and you feel it is what you have been looking for then, you will find much more information in my new book  Face with a Heart: Mastering Authentic Beauty Makeup which beautifully and expertly spells out how to achieve the results you want.

What Are The Best Colors For Me? Pt 2: Color Intensity

In part 2 of this 3-part series Makeup Gourmet, Chris Scott looks at your skin, hair and eye color and gives tips to help determine your natural color intensity.

In part one we rummaged in your wardrobe and jewelry box to look for clues. Today, in part two, we will look at your skin, hair and eye color intensity, then next week for the third and final video we will address:

How to choose a makeup look that suits your lifestyle

Your skin, hair and eye color intensity

Part one showed you how the colors you choose to wear should influence the colors you choose for your make-up. Now it is time to focus on you. Even more important than knowing the color of your skin, hair and eyes, is knowing their intensities. The intensity of your coloring (from light to dark) determines the appropriate hue of make-up color for you.  Intensity and hue are synonymous. Once you know your colors and your natural skin, hair and eye color intensities, you will be able to specifically orchestrate any effect you want with your make-up (see part three, next week).

This second video is much shorter than part 1 and it will help you determine:

  • Your hair color intensity
  • Your skin color intensity
  • Your eye color intensity
  • How to choose the right make-up colors to match the intensity of your coloring

What Are The Best Colors For Me? Pt 1: Closet, Shoes, Jewelry

What Are The Best Colors For Me? Pt 1: Closet, Shoes, Jewelry

In this 3-part series, Makeup Gourmet, Chris Scott tackles the big question of what are the best colors for you starting with your clothes, shoes and jewelry.

The answer to this question is many-layered so over the next three weeks, we will look at each of the layers in turn and reveal your path to the right colors, and intensity of colors, for you so you can make choices that make you look your best, every day.

The result is this 3-part video series that will illuminate how to choose not only the best colors, but also the correct intensity of colors for you, by showing you how to narrow down the options so you can answer the question, “What are the best colors for me?” all by yourself. Today, in part one we will look at your closet, shoe collection and jewelry box, then in the first two blogs of the new year we will address:

  • How your inherent coloring relates to the intensity of your color choices
  • How to choose a makeup looks that suits your lifestyle

Your closet, shoes and jewelry

Whether we like it or not, the answer starts in your closet. Regardless of what a color specialist tells you looks good on you, you should wear what makes you feel good. It only makes good sense that you feel good in the colors you wear.

And the same goes for makeup, because makeup is an accessory to what you wear and it also complements the intensity of your features such as your eye color, skin tone, and hair color. You will find, as you go through this process of identifying the best colors for you that, in most cases, you don’t pick the color – the color picks you.

In the first video, you will see how:

  • Your closet dictates your color preference
  • Your shoes and jewelry influence your color temperature (and what that means)
  • The intensity of the color dictates your makeup look
