Let’s make this quick and easy.

Blue eyeliner makes the whites of the eyes appear more white.

If your eyes appear fatigued with redness and/or a veil of yellow, this is one great tip you want to embrace.

 

 

I discovered years ago that navy blue eyeliner did remarkable things to the whites of the eyes.

Unless you already love blue eye makeup, most people are reluctant to consent when suggested blue eyeliner.

This is perhaps due to the occasional spirited application of blue.

 

I prefer navy blue because it is so dark that it doesn’t read blue,

and yet it does the trick of reducing the appearance of redness in the eyes.

If you have ever taken a makeup lesson with me, I probably suggested blue as one of your eyeliner colors.

By using my Lash Filler technique (see video below) of applying the liner you accomplish so many things at once.

• First and foremost you brighten the whites of the eyes.

• You also give your lashes the appearance of more fullness without mascara.

• By using my waterproof Navy Gel Eyeliner you do not experience any smudging throughout the day.

If you like to use bottom eyeliner then also use the Navy Gel Eyeliner either between your bottom lashes or on the wet line just above your bottom lashes.

Here is a video explaining the Lash Filler technique.

Many of us wish we photographed better.

In an era where images are taken constantly, it is difficult to control the many instances our picture is taken.

Here are my 2 quick/best tips for photographing better.

 

The Turtle

This is a quick physical adjustment that tightens the jawline and opens our eyes.

All you do is extend your whole face forward 1-2 inches and then drop your chin 1/2 inch.

A common mistake is to extend only the chin forward 1-2 inches. This will give you an unwanted result.

Practice moving the entire plane of your face and not just your chin in the mirror. Once you get your muscles familiar with this, it becomes easy to replicate.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also notice with the 2 women that one shoulder is closer to the camera than the other. This tends to reduce flatness and fullness in your image.

 

Powder the Heart

When possible, lightly powder the heart of your face.

2 changes happen when you isolate and neutralize shine in the heart of your face.

1. You reduce a shine from distracting from your main features, eyes & lips.
2. The area outside the heart reflects light better giving a healthy energized appearance.

As a reminder, the area between the lines on the images below is the heart of the face.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bonus Tip: How to make eyes smolder on camera.

We see this with celebrities all the time. There is an intensity to their gaze.

This is simple. Pretend you are trying to read the bottom line of a chart during an eye exam.

Your bottom eye line raises up as it strains to make out the eye chart bottom line.

This communicates as a smoldering intensity. Try it out. You will laugh but it works.

Famous eye exam culprits include Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Tom Cruise.

While there are specific techniques to address personal concerns such as wide-set eyes or round cheeks etc, your overall face shape as it relates to makeup stays unchanged.

The goal with Authentic Beauty makeup is:  Reduce the Distractions & Enhance the Attractions.

Distractions are anything that catches our attention away from eyes and lips. Examples include redness in skin, darkness under eyes, blemishes etc.

Regardless of face shape, isolating our main attractions, eyes & lips, is key to being seen more clearly.

That is why the Face with a Heart concept is universal and holds true every time makeup is applied.

What is the ‘Heart of the Face?’

It is the area contained within the red lines above.
Think of eyebrows as the top arches of the heart.
The diagonal lines running along the outside corner of eyes and lips are the sides of the heart.
The base of the chin within these diagonal lines is the base of the heart.

Here are examples of face shapes and how the Face with a Heart translates from face to face.

 

Use this as a guideline as to where you apply and not apply makeup.

As best as possible, minimize/neutralize any distractions within the heart so eyes and lips stand clearly alone.

I always say to make the skin in the interior of the heart level 10 coverage, meaning the fullest coverage you want with your makeup.

Then coverage gradually lessens from 10 to 0 as it moves away from the exterior of the heart line outwards towards the hairline and jaw line. This is automatically achieved by smoothing foundation from the center of the face outwards.

To heighten and better frame the Heart of the Face, have contour and blush fall just outside the Heart Line. This dramatically isolates your eyes and lips while shaping the area of the face outside the heart line. I call it ‘where the face turns the corner’.

from Natural to Dramatic makeup, following this guideline will always make you noticed first.

What you want to hear is ‘You look great’, rather than ‘Your makeup looks great’.
