How To Investigate A Look Update

Good makeup is good detective work.

Rather than be overwhelmed by your makeup options, allow the answers to each of the following 3 questions eliminate

what is not appropriate. What will remain are the best choices for each set of circumstances.

The first 3 questions I ask before starting any makeup application are:

1. Where are you going?
2. What are you wearing?
3. What time of day will you be there?

1. ‘Where are you going?’ dictates the makeup style.
  • Work
  • Drinks
  • Dinner
  • Shopping
  • Theater
  • Indoors
  • Outdoors
  • Etc.

2. ‘What are you wearing?’ dictates the makeup colors.
  • Blue skirt and white top
  • Jeans and pink top
  • Black cocktail dress
  • Your favorite scarf
  • Jewelry (yellow metal, silver metal, copper metal, crystals, colorful stones)
  • Etc.

3. ‘What time of day will you be there?’ dictates the intensity of the look.
  • Daytime
  • Nighttime
  • Day to night

The other 3 questions/observations that are more constant are:

  • Skin tone intensity (light to dark)
  • Hair color, intensity (light to dark), and length.
  • Eye (iris) color and intensity (light to dark)

This is the given set of circumstances of your organic palette. It is advantageous to understand your organic palette as it relates to your intended makeup effect.
