It has been 18 months since our first stay-in-place mandate for the Bay Area and most of the country. Now, a year and a half later, we find ourselves inching back to a more public lifestyle.
Here is a checklist to see how your makeup has fared during this time.
Smell Your Makeup Before Using
Wet products tend to spoil faster than dry products. If there is any ‘off’ odor, discard it.
Rub a small amount of dry products between your fingers. If the product ‘balls up’ at all, discard it.
Shampoo All Your Makeup Brushes
I use a ‘shampoo & conditioner in one’ formula of shampoo.
Fill sink with warm water and mix in a capful of shampoo.
Immerse the brush end of the brush into the soapy water and vigorously swish brush in water to clean the hairs.
Empty sink and refill with clean water. Swish brushes in clean water to remove all shampoo residue.
Squeeze out water and reshape brush with your hands.
Allow brushes to lay overnight along the edge of a countertop with hair end of brushes extending past edge of countertop.
Assess Your Current Wardrobe And Jewelry Colors.
Makeup is an accessory to your wardrobe, facial features, and lifestyle.
Use your assessment to guide you when selecting new makeup.

Honoring Labor is Fair Trade. It is an agreement that one provides services and the other provides. Your services are your employers income.
My parents raised me to treat everyone equal, and make the ones you like your friends. Without mutual respect for one another, the employee/employer relationship becomes dysfunctional. In this scenario, everyone loses.
I appreciate Labor Day as it is a day of acknowledgement of the mutual respect and expectations between employee and employer. We are all equal, and Labor Day asks us to keep this front of mind.
In honor of everyone’s labor, I offer this gesture of 25% Off Cart special through Monday September 6th, 2021.

My dad served in the Air Force. Growing up that meant that we as a family also served. We lived at Andersen Air Force Base on Guam In the mid-to-late 1960s. Although I now know the wrong done during the Vietnam war, or as the Vietnamese call it, the American War, there were people hurting that my mom, as head of the Red Cross, and subsequently her kids, helped to give comfort.
I share this self history as it reminds me that I need to serve during this time of peak covid. We are all caught in a battle against covid. It is not a battle we want, however we have no choice. How people choose to fight this battle is as mixed as during the Vietnam war.
I work face-to-face with the public. It is dishonest of me to not take every effort possible to keep someone else from getting covid. Personal responsibility falls squarely on each of us in this time of covid. To know the facts and willingly subject myself and others to danger is a huge corruption of personal responsibility.
For this reason, I must take another pause from meeting clients in person as it is the responsible thing to do. Regardless of the financial/lifestyle hurt this decision imposes on me, community and world health far outweigh my personal needs.
My wish is that those who are inconvenienced and feel morally oppressed by the actions necessary to stop covid realize that this is their time to serve. No one wants a war, however, when the fight comes to you, on your soil, it is everyone’s duty to fight back.
Stay safe. Stay well. Stay vaccinated.

I wanted to pass on this article. It states many mainstream sunscreen products that use octocrylene as a sun filter. Octocrylene on its own is fine, however it may degrade into benzophenone, a possible carcinogen that can also interfere with hormones such as estrogen.
Some Neutrogena, Coppertone and Supergoop sunscreens contain octocrylene. Also, Johnson & Johnson found low levels of benzene, another possible carcinogen in its products and announced that it would be pulling five of its sunscreen products from the market including four from Neutrogena and one from Aveeno.
Researchers are calling on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to pull certain sunscreens from the market after the presence of a possible carcinogen was discovered.
Craig Downs, executive director of the nonprofit Haereticus Environmental Laboratory (HEL), led researchers in a letter requesting that products containing the sunscreen ingredient octocrylene be pulled from shelves after it was discovered that it may degrade to benzophenone, a possible carcinogen that can also interfere with hormones such as estrogen.
The researchers pointed to data that suggested octocrylene stayed in the human body at levels significantly higher than the level of concern for system toxicity. According to the researchers, this level of concern was observed for up to six days after the chemical was absorbed into the body and could still be detected in blood for up to 10 days more.
The researchers also pointed to octocrylene’s history of being a known skin sensitizer, often causing reactions on skin when applied topically.
In their petition, the researchers noted that octocrylene can be found in more 2,300 SPF products. One benefit that is touted for octocrylene is its ability to not only absorb UV radiation but also stabilize avobenzone, another sun filter.
“Unfortunately, these benefits appear to be outweighed by the risks associated with its own instability and decomposition to the carcinogen benzophenone,” they wrote.
Companies such as Neutrogena, Coppertone and Supergoop all include octocrylene in their sunscreen products.
In a letter dated Aug. 5, the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that it had received the petition.
FDA spokeswoman Courtney Rhodes told Bloomberg that the agency “takes seriously any safety concerns raised about products we regulate, including sunscreen,” adding that it “will continue to monitor the sunscreen marketplace to help ensure the availability of safe sunscreens for U.S. consumers” while it looks into the concerns raised by the researchers.
Last month, Johnson & Johnson announced that it would be pulling five of its sunscreen products from the market after low levels of benzene, another possible carcinogen, was found in its products, including four from Neutrogena and one from Aveeno.
